The most remote destinations Prime members have visited
Ranong, Thailand
Thailand is one of the most popular vacation destinations in the world. It may come as a surprise, then, that the idyllic coastal province of Ranong doesn’t get as much attention as the rest of the country. The long rainy season (April to October) may put some travelers off, but if you choose the right time of year, a visit to Ranong is worth a visit. Off the coast is the island of Koh Phayam.
It is an uncrowded island in Thailand, but one that has nothing to envy the more popular islands. Unspoiled white sand beaches, mangroves, and cashew trees… If you research Koh Phayam, you will see that it is consistently described as “off the beaten track”, which it is exactly. Koh Phayam is what famous Thai islands like Koh Samui and Phuket were 50 years ago. An island for locals where the pace of life is slow and Internet connectivity is relatively scarce. No cars, no ATMs, just unspoiled nature, and a handful of beachfront bars.
Norfolk Island, Australia
Norfolk Island is a tiny Australian island located in the South Pacific Ocean. And we really mean tiny. Only 8 km long and 5 km wide, the island makes up for its small size with breathtaking scenery, a friendly neighborhood, and a fascinating past. It is the only place in the world where the telephone directory lists the inhabitants under their nickname, and where cows have the right of way. Norfolk pines can be found all over the island, and the locals are proud of them. The seeds of the Norfolk Island pines are exported, and the Norfolk Island flag proudly depicts a pine tree.
In 1824, the island was a penitentiary for the worst offenders from the British convict colonies in Australia, and the fruits of convict labor can still be seen on the island today. The unspoiled paradise of Norfolk Island is 1,675 miles from Sydney, and its remoteness in the middle of the country may explain the lack of visits from Prime members of eDreams. But direct flights to Norfolk Island are available from Sydney and Brisbane, and the trip is well worth it!
Andenes, Norway
The small town of Andenes is located at the northern end of the Norwegian island of Andøya. A place is so calm and peaceful that it could be the definition of the word “secluded”. The absence of tourists has nothing to do with the beauty of this destination, which undoubtedly has some of the best beaches in the country, stunning coastal roads, and abundant wildlife that can flourish undisturbed.
Andenes has been a fishing village since the Middle Ages, and the traditional town center is a good starting point for exploring the island. Go hiking, whale watching, and cycling to fully experience this secluded Nordic paradise. Andenes Airport is very small and only accommodates a few domestic flights from Norway. Yes, get to Platforms is not that simple, but this island deserves to be discovered!
